Ishinomaki Mangattan Museum

Ishinomaki-shi revealed in 1995 to build a memorial museum to commemorate Shotaro Ishinomori, who had connections with Ishinomaki and subsequently formulated "Basic Scheme for Ishinomaki Manga Land" in 1996. In response to the Scheme, citizen groups became more active with plans to revitalize the community with the scheme as the core. in 1999, "Citizens Group to promote Manga Land Scheme" was established. In the same year, members of this group became the core in formulating the "Master Plan for Vitalization of Central Ishinomaki" .
Ishinomori Manga Museum was completed in 2001 and the "Machizukuri Manbo, Co. Ltd." was established and designated by the city to be in charge of maintenance and operations.

Ishinomori Manga Museum is sited facing the former Kitakami River and has a floor area of 2000sqm. The design is based on Ishinomori's vision of a spaceship flying off into space. The outer skin is made from steel, but the shape was difficult for building makers to form and its was entrusted to ship makers.

The exhibits based on the concept " to communicate Manga Culture" targeted at families as well as a broad range of other age groups. Open Work Shops free to all comers are also held.
the museum was damaged in the Great East Japan Earthquake Disaster, but repairs were carried out in the following year 2012 along with renewal of the exhibits and was reopened in the spring of 2013.
