Groundbreaking for Taichung Hanshin Intercontinental Shopping Center at Taichung, Taiwan, expected to open in 2025

On October 29, 2021, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Taichung Hanshin Intercontinental Shopping Center at Beitun District in Taichung City, Taiwan. It is a large-scale commercial facility operated by Hanshen Department Store, a major department store in Taiwan, and is scheduled to open in 2025.

The population of Taichung City is over 2.8 million, and Beitun District is the most populous area in Taichung City and featured as a place where future development is expected. This project is planned as an annex to the Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium, and will be a complex of department stores, cinema complexes, restaurants, and other facilities, where people can enjoy a variety of activities.

As a place where people can enjoy a variety of activities, it will be a commercial complex that emphasizes experience and communication with rooftop gardens, terraces, and atrium spaces both indoors and outdoors, where various events can be held on the seasons and times. In this way, even new business models such as e-commerce spread, this shopping center will attract people to come, so that they can enjoy being there as a real place.

The exterior of the building is composed of stacked human-scale volumes, with multi-layered rooftop gardens and terraces to symbolize the diversity of the indoor and outdoor commercial spaces. This allows the rich appeal of the space and conveys the elegant and delicate brand image of Hanshen Department Store.
